Focus and vision:
to bring the light of the gospel to Scotland’s poorest communities (schemes) through church planting and revitalisation. “The schemes are strong and vibrant Scottish communities with a rich history but are often hit hard by complex social problems. They also happen to be the places least likely to have a gospel church or indigenous Christians.” In America, we might call the schemes “the projects”. 20Schemes believes that the Gospel is the deepest need of the people of the Schemes, and that the local church is the means through which the Gospel will reach the schemes. Each ministry is different, based on the practical as well as the spiritual needs of the community. There are currently 8 churches in 4 cities.
Connection with Christchurch: Than Peterson was raised in Christchurch and previously supported as a missionary with Urban Promise in Wilmington, Delaware.
Prayer and other needs: For our church community; since I have arrived four different people have passed away that are connected to the church community in some capacity. There is a lot of grieving going on and we need wisdom to walk together.
For continued “settling in”. I feel loved by the church and included, but moving overseas is lonely at first. That’s just how it goes. Pray for the Lord to be my comfort. (Than will be moving from Niddrie to Dundee in January so will have a second “settling in” at that point.)
For our indigenous staff. They bear a lot of weight. Pray that God will sustain and encourage them in the face of many trials.

Than is a ministry intern which involves a wide variety of activities that connect with the community, from interacting with teens via basketball to getting to know people at the church’s café to supporting the regular outreaches of the church. All interns are simultaneously enrolled in the Ragged School of Theology. His destination is Dundee. He is currently serving at the Niddrie Community Church in Edinburgh.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6–7)
