History: Tim and Helen met in Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo) in 1978 while they were serving as short term missionaries with the Evangelical Covenant Department of World Mission. They were married August 4, 1979. They have 3 children: Rebekah, Deborah, and Tim Jr. (who went to be with the Lord in July 2003.) They served in Zaire again from 1984 until 1997 when the war forced the evacuation of all personnel. In 1999 the Smiths and Covenant World Mission agreed to partner with the Buenas Noticias Churches of Spain in church planting in Equatorial Guinea, Africa. The Smiths returned to the DRC in 2010.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6–7)
