Evangelical Covenant Missionaries Tim and Helen Smith tim-helen.smith@covchurch.org Focus and vision: Tim works in discipleship and Christian formation and Helen works with women and children in Christian education and programming. Connection with Christchurch: Christchurch has been supporting Tim & Helen for over two decades. Pastor Mark and Tim went to school together at North Park Theological Seminary. History: Tim and Helen met in Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo) in 1978 while they were serving as short term missionaries with the Evangelical Covenant Department of World Mission. They were married August 4, 1979. They have 3 children: Rebekah, Deborah, and Tim Jr. (who went to be with the Lord in July 2003.) They served in Zaire again from 1984 until 1997 when the war forced the evacuation of all personnel. In 1999 the Smiths and Covenant World Mission agreed to partner with the Buenas Noticias Churches of Spain in church planting in Equatorial Guinea, Africa. The Smiths returned to the DRC in 2010.
