Evangelical Covenant Missionary
International Food Security & Aquaculture
Randall & Cheryl Bevis
PO Box 163
New London, MN 56273
We are a faith-based organization that seeks to work with at-risk communities to develop sustainable fish farming systems based on the local contexts.
Where possible we will seek to take an integrated farming approach that also incorporates other types of livestock, fruit, vegetable and nut production into the food production system to provide for the total dietary needs of the community.
Connection with Christchurch:
Christchurch has supported Randy and Cheryl Bevis for over 20 years, first in Thailand, and now in Randy’s international aquaculture work.
To learn more:
Randy and Cheryl Bevis were commissioned as Covenant missionaries to Thailand under Covenant World Mission of the Evangelical Covenant Church at the 1995 Covenant Annual Meeting. They were called to serve in the areas of community development and discipleship.
The Bevises served in Chiang Mai, Thailand from 1996 to 2014, working with the Northern Thailand Foundation for Enablement (NTFE). NTFE is involved in church planting, discipleship of youth and adults, and the development and teaching of northern Thai worship music.
A fish hatchery established by Randy in 1998, provides financial support for NTFE staff and church work, and runs a micro credit loan system providing livelihoods for 20 families. A youth camp was also established in 2009 and is supported financially by the fish hatchery. Cheryl worked as a speech therapist at Grace International School, and served on the worship team at the international church in Chiang Mai.
Cheryl concluded missionary service in 2014 and is now serving as a speech therapist at Rice Memorial Hospital (Willmar MN). She also serves as the chair of the worship commission at their local Covenant Church in New London, MN.
In January 2015, Randy’s role adjusted to assisting Covenant projects in Laos and Thailand, and a major focus is helping the CEUM (Covenant church) in Congo. Based in Minnesota and using his background in aquaculture (fish farming), Randy travels worldwide helping the ECC and other Christian organizations with food security and fish farming projects.
Randy also has made 11 trips to Haiti in the last two years helping four organizations there with fish farming projects near Port Au Prince. In 2017 he will start helping projects in Cap Haitin with partners that the Covenant Churches of Canada have been helping for the last 10 years.
List of countries where Randy has done development work:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6–7)
