Opportunities for involvement:
Staff: Urban Promise staff and interns live in the neighborhoods where they hold after school camps and summer programs, and fully immerse themselves in the lives of the families whose children and youth they serve. This means, among other things, home visits, developing relationships with parents, advocating for the kids at their public schools, attending spelling bees and plays and special events, taking the kids out for ice cream, phone calls to keep connected, and just hanging out on their “off time”.
Urban Promise also invests in their city by hiring “Street Leaders”, local teens who serve alongside staff and interns. UP also has a one year international leadership training program with the goal of developing leadership for similar programs in international contexts. Participants spend a year in Wilmington or Camden involved in an internship and an entrepreneurial leadership program.
History: Urban Promise began in Camden New Jersey in 1988. Its model has been replicated in locations on 3 continents. UrbanPromise Wilmington started in 1998 and is now in its second decade of service.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6–7)
