Mission and vision: to combine scientific knowledge with Christian compassion.  SMI is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to producing diagnostics for developing countries, developing and distributing these diagnostic tools to indigenous medical professionals to enable them to accurately diagnose and treat those afflicted.

Connection with Christchurch: Christchurch has partnered with SMI since 2005. We are grateful to play a small part in this global mission of biochemistry and compassion!

Some more details: We partner with a wide variety of individuals, mission organizations, NGOs and FBOs to bring healing and earn the right to share the Gospel.  We love being a small part of what God is doing in medical missions around the world.  As of 2017, we have sent more than 355,000 tests to 72 different countries.

History: The dream began 28 years ago as Alynne was graduating from college.  She had a passion for biochemistry and a strong desire to help those in developing countries.  As she searched for a university for graduate studies, she learned about a technology called enzyme immunoassays (EIA) that are quick, easy, and sensitive; able to detect infantile gastroenteritis, a leading cause of infant deaths in underdeveloped countries; and rapid and rugged tests that can be performed on site.  Alynne saw this technology as the way to use her chemistry skills to help people in developing countries, so she specialized in EIAs.  In 2001, after years of developing EIAs for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, Alynne founded Science with a Mission, Inc.  The dream has spread to include Directors, Officers, volunteers, prayer partners and financial partners.
